Book Proposals

A book proposal is a major component in your many steps toward getting your work published. While book proposals are already an established necessity in selling nonfiction projects, they are becoming more and more common in selling book-length fiction, too.

Being a great writer and being great at marketing your own work are two different things. Yet, editors and agents have become too busy these days to do much more than read your work. And most of them only read sample sections instead of full manuscripts.

Placing your project on the market, researching your competition and audience, as well as providing valid background information and statistics as to why your project, and not the other five out there on the same subject matter, should be the one they put their money on – this and more is the required information a writer is asked to provide when first contacting an agent or publisher to introduce his or her work.

Writers are being more challenged than ever these days. But there’s hope: Your chances of leaving your competition behind are as great as your project – and as your book proposal. A book proposal has to be one of the best pieces of writing you do. It has to be an entirely convincing package to prove your expertise.

While book proposals follow certain general guidelines, every project is different and needs to be approached accordingly. A book proposal usually runs at about one quarter of the length of the completed manuscript.

You may need assistance in writing your book proposal from scratch, or you might have already completed it and need a second pair of eyes to proofread and edit – no matter where you are in your process, you can be helped!

Just ask for a free estimate. Please include a cover letter outlining what you need,  along with a one-page synopsis of your project, a sample chapter, a bio of each writer, and information about your project’s current stage of development.
